The failure or malfunction of transformers or similar equipment can often be traced back to inadequate control of the moisture level entering the equipment. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain a very low humidity level in the airspace located at the top of the conservator tank. This preventive measure ensures that the insulating properties of the cooling medium are not compromised.

Desiccant breathers offer a practical and effective solution for regulating moisture levels in the conservator tank, especially when variations occur in the volume of the cooling medium or airspace due to temperature gradients. All transformer breathers are equipped with a self-indicating silica gel desiccant. The desiccant appears orange-yellow when active and undergoes a colour change to green when it becomes saturated, providing a clear visual indication for replacement.
